Toy Story 5 Teaser Pits The Beloved Duo Against a Tablet Computer
Exactly 30 years after the original Toy Story film was released, establishing the animation giant as a leading film company and introducing audiences to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a brief look into the plot but leaving viewers curious how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys
The preview shows Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he grew up — getting a brand new plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser avoids is why the sheriff is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a fair and assisting prize toys locate loving owners.
Certainly, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, though. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the insignia pinned to her shirt.
Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the toys.
